TORONTO, ON–(Marketwired - October 03, 2016) - Self Care Catalysts, a patient intelligence and solutions company, is partnering with mental health advocate and Schizophrenia patient Kristy Speaks to honour Mental Health Awareness week. The partnership comes as a result of the company’s Self Care Tool Design Challenge, an initiative kickstarted by CEO Grace Soyao to improve and promote patient engagement in the Canadian healthcare space. Kristy will fly to Toronto from Drumright, Oklahoma, to collaborate and produce the winning self-care tool – a groundbreaking positive affirmation tool customized for Schizophrenia Health Storylines – which she hopes will change lives of her peers in the same way the the self-care app has done for her.
“Your company enables individuals to manage their medical treatment and care…this is why my go to is [the Schizophrenia Health Storylines app] as well as the tools and resources that are offered for managing my chronic illness,” says Kristy Speaks. Check out Kristy’s story: http://www.selfcaremvmt.com/self-care-design-challenge-winner-kristy-speaks The Self-Care Design Challenge is a first of its kind and it is our hope that we inspire others with mental health issues to lead the healthcare conversation. Patients are more than just subjects. They are our peers. Just like Kristy.
“Shift the power to the patients. That’s what it’s been about since day one. The Self-Care Design Challenge was created to do that,” says Grace Soyao. “Three years later, we have the support of such an amazing and innovative community at MaRS, and we are here doing what we promised we would. I am so excited to meet Kristy and work with her to increase mental health awareness and show the healthcare community the true power of listening to patients.”

Join us Wednesday, October 5th from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Thursday, October 6th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join Kristy and the SCC design team at MaRs Centre, South Tower located at 101 College Street, Suite 200, Toronto, Ontario to celebrate Kristy’s ingenuity.
